Who we are
My name is Will MacHugh. In 2002 I started Eltopia.com. In 2006 I started Eltopia Communications and started putting up towers for WiFi, and now over 20 years later and at 50 years old, I’m going to build 1 more network.
In 2010, I sold the retail side of Eltopia.com to Desert Winds Wireless. Since then I haven’t done any ‘retail’ telecom or internet services. I’ve stayed in it at a wholesale level, providing telecom services to folks all over. In 2015, I wanted to get back into cellular services. I bought all of the equipment from a Chinese company called Huawei, and in 2018, all of the equipment I was going to turn on was declared illegal and I had to dismantle it.
In 2022, we were awarded a partial grant from the FCC to replace the equipment that I had originally purchased to build the network. Since then, I have been working with the Franklin PUD to use those assets to augment their fiber optic network in Franklin County, so the folks out here could finally have the broadband they need.
Again, today I’m 50 years old. What is important to me is that the resident of the county get the full benefit of the investment made on behalf of the Franklin PUD, myself, and the tax payers who made the grant possible. I don’t want to do this forever. I’m on the lookout for that next young person(s) to take this over, who wants to live here, who believes in the residents of this area, and wants to make an improvement. In the mean time, I’m working with a great group of folks who want to make your life safer, more productive, and give tools to the businesses and agencies of this area to move us ahead.
